Our Story

Lead / Inspire / Travel / Transform

Journey Strategies (JS) was founded in 2015 by Robert Roche. Robert worked in the field for the majority of his career before he was first exposed to the concept of educational, development-focused trips. He witnessed first hand the disconnect between policy, philanthropy, and the lived experience on the ground. Then in 2011, he was asked to support a trip of delegates to Sierra Leone that focused on global health. It was immediately clear that the experience of meeting community members and engaging with projects was life changing for the delegation. The inspirational stories they heard allowed them to put names and faces behind the statistics and highlight how effective change happens. Robert was inspired. He saw travel as the answer to filling the knowledge gap between donors, policy makers, and the communities they serve. He understood the power of travel to transform perspectives and create better leaders. He has been planning and implementing trips ever since. Robert met Lindsay Kallman, and the two of them decided to break out and create their own new, bold trip consultancy.

At JS, our approach is to take people off the beaten path and engage directly with community members, local stakeholders, businesses, and families whose lives are impacted by active, engaged philanthropic partners. We believe that your journey – from the beginning to the end – will transform the way you or your organization understand and deliver philanthropy. This deeper understanding provides a powerful platform for influencing social change.
